Postion - Public Relations Internship

The mission of the SPORTS ILLUSTRATED COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT is to enhance the SPORTS ILLUSTRATED franchise in the areas of external and internal public relations, publicity and charity outreach. The franchise includes the following publications and properties: SPORTS ILLUSTRATED, SPORTS ILLUSTRATED FOR KIDS, SI.COM, SPORTS ILLUSTRATED ON CAMPUS and SI PRESENTS. Interns in the Communications Department will actively assist the staff in working on each of these publications and properties. The weekly duties of an intern are varied and range from office support to significant interaction with some of the biggest names in the sports world. Some duties include writing and distributing press releases, pitching stories, compiling publicity materials and acting as a liaison between SI writers/editors and the press. Recent interns have landed permanent positions with organizations such as Nike, the New York Yankees, the WTA Tour and INSTYLE…not to mention SPORTS ILLUSTRATED. APPLICATION DETAILS: The Communications Department accepts three or four interns per semester -- Spring, Summer and Fall. To qualify for an internship, students must have completed at least their sophomore year, have an interest in public relations and publicity, be knowledgeable about the world of sports and receive some form of class credit for the time spent working at SI. A minimum of 16 hours a week / 2 full-time days is required. Interns are not paid, but local travel reimbursement and a meal stipend is provided.
